St. Mark's Book Club will be meeting at the home of Alan Rumsey at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, January 28, to discuss the book "Churches: A Time to Die – Hope for New Life" by Anthony Gifford.
The author describes himself as follows:
"I was raised within 'the church', but bored, knowing that there must be much more to the message of Jesus than what was around me. After teaching and ranching (beef cattle) for twelve years, I went to a great seminary, not to train for 'ministry' but to learn. After being convinced to become ordained, I served for twenty years, usually unsuccessful at changing things from within, trying to nudge churches into becoming places of DOING more than BELIEVING. Badly broken, I left. Now, with regained strength, I'm finding my voice to share what I know, that God, by whatever the Name, has more for us then mere Christianity, that we are called to share and question. After years of living 'on board' our sail boat, I live with my wife, among friends, on Amherst Island near Kingston, Ontario. Life is good, and very challenging."
New members of St, Mark's Book Club are always welcome.
