This year, the Season of Creation celebration invites you to “put pressure on your governments to make honest, just and righteous decisions in global forums and to fulfill financial commitments to loss and damage and to biodiversity. Encourage them to reach binding global agreements that eliminate the use of fossil fuels and achieve a fair and equitable energy transition.”
We suggest you pray, individually with your family or with a larger group. Pray for those who have power and agency to act justly, especially at the upcoming international climate negotiations at COP28 in Dubai, November 30 to December 12, 2023.
The urgency of climate change cannot be ignored. Despite clear scientific consensus, greenhouse gas emission reductions are not happening fast enough. Meanwhile, the most vulnerable communities are suffering disproportionately from the impact of a warming world. COP27 reached a milestone agreement to finance climate-related loss and damage in the world’s most vulnerable nations. This year, richer countries must agree to providing new and additional funding to support loss and damage.
We Hold the Earth
We hold all those who suffer from storms and droughts intensified by climate change.
We hold all species that suffer.
We hold world leaders delegated to make decisions for life.
We pray that the web of life may be mended through courageous actions to limit carbon emissions.
We pray for right actions for adaptation and mitigation to help our already suffering earth community.
We pray that love and wisdom might inspire my actions and our actions as communities….. so that we may, with integrity, look into the eyes of one another and all beings and truthfully say, we are doing our part to care for them and the future of the children.
May love transform us and our world with new steps toward life.
