A Message from the WardensFor the week of January 25, 2021 Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Mark’s Anglican Church in Barriefield, Faithful stewards Two friends were trying out for a part in a musical presentation at school; they were set on getting the leading role. But they were chosen to be flowers. Not exactly the ticket to Broadway they were hoping for. Yet the girls were excited for their friends who got the leading roles. Their joy seemed greater cheering for their friends and sharing in their excitement. What a picture of how our interactions with each other in the body of Christ should look! Every local church has what might be considered key roles. But it also needs the flowers – the ones who do vital but not-so-high-profile work. If others get roles we desire, may we choose to encourage them even as we passionately fulfill the roles God has given us. In fact, helping and encouraging others is a way to show love for Him. Hebrews 6:10 says, For God is not unjust; he will not overlook your work and the love that you showed for his sake in serving the saints, as you still do. And no gift from His hand is unimportant: Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received. (1 Peter 4:10) In the Hebrews passage, the writer makes it clear that he does not view the believers as lost. But he does confront them. If they are to prove fruitful for God they must realize that once trust is reposed in Christ, there’s no need to return to basic teachings. They have entered God’s ‘one door’ to salvation and have no need to hesitate or look back. In 1 Peter, we are to commit ourselves to loving and serving one another, faithfully administering God’s grace. We pray: God, help us not to focus on other roles, but to serve You in the sacred calling You’ve given to each of us. Enable us to help others by a word of encouragement for what they do for You. Amen. ************************************************************* The Wardens are grateful to you for maintaining your financial commitment to St. Mark’s.
