St. Mark's Book Group
If there is sufficient interest, St. Mark's Book Group will be meeting in early September to discuss the book "Travelling Mercies - Some Thoughts on Faith", by Anne Lamott. To quote from the book cover: "With an exuberant mix of passion, insight and humor, in Travelling Mercies [Anne Lamott] takes us on a journey through her often troubled past to illuminate her devout but quirky walk of faith. In a narrative spiced with stories and scripture, with diatribes, laughter. and tears, Lamott tells how, against all odds, she came to believe in God and then, even more miraculously, in herself." If you are interested in participating in this book review/discussion, please contact Alan Rumsey (alan@planetrumsey.ca). Then, depending on the responses received, a date, time and location will be agreed for the meeting. |

Canadian Walk for VeteransSunday, September 24 The annual Canadian Walk for Veterans invites Canadians to walk shoulder to shoulder in recognition of our military, veterans and first responders. The primary goal is to provide an opportunity for Canadians to learn about the challenges of coping with life after service. A secondary goal is fundraising, through modest registration fees, donations and sponsorships. Proceeds go to organizations that are working hard to provide veterans and first responders with support, rehabilitation services and the tools they need to cope. Most importantly these organizations provide hope and bring a sense of purpose back into the lives of those who need it. In Kingston, this years event will take place on September 24, from 1 pm to 4 pm, starting at the Kingston Military Family Resource Centre (KMFRC).
